1. Why do you rent out your place?
I live in the apartment above the holiday flat. One day I’m going to connect them, but until then I’m renting out the ground floor apartment.
2. What do you enjoy about living with strangers?
Their different backgrounds, their positive mood and attitude in general. Very contagious! And also, I get the chance to discover Berlin once again.
3. Why 9flats?
9flats is very clear, easy to maintain and update, and aesthetically pleasing. So far, all my 9flats guests have been great, and have respected my property.
4. How have you changed your decor since listing your place?
I added some extra things to make it more comfortable (old wooden chest, some decorative changes, etc.). I also provide a docking station for iPhones and iPads, so guests can play their own music.
5. What's your best/funniest hosting story?
Once, six women guests from Scotland spontaneously accepted my invitation for a wine tasting, and we had a great time together.
6. What’s your best insider travel tip in your area?
Coffee and cake in KW, a protected courtyard and contemporary art gallery in August Strasse, Mitte.
7. What's your personal travel philosophy?
The journey is the ultimate goal...
8. How much contact do you have with your guests?
The contact is personal and I take a lot of time to explain how everything works at home, and also about the city, but I don’t impose myself on them. I’m always available as a neighbour, but I always respect the guest’s privacy.
9. My top tip for aspiring hosts
Always provide fast, reliable answers. And the photos shouldn’t raise false expectations. In my case, guests think my apartment is actually much nicer and larger than expected from the pictures, and this helps them get into a great positive mood on arrival. And of course, small gestures like sparkling wine, fresh flowers or sweets on the bed also help!
